Still looking for a campsite for the night, we had to pull over for this sunset. This was several miles north of Hectea Head and just south of Florence. The fog quickly swallowed up the color. This light lasted less than five minutes.
We arrived at this beach below the Heceta Head Lighthouse too late to climb to the lighthouse. The fog rolling in made it seem darker than it actually was. At this point, we didn’t know where we would camp, so couldn’t stay long.
Humbug Mountain is 6 miles south of Port Orford, Oregon, along Highway 101. Humbug Mountain is 1,756 feet in elevation and drops dramatically to the Pacific.
An eroded sea stack at Harris Beach near Brookings, Oregon. Oregon maintains an excellent assortment of state parks and campgrounds. Harris Beach Campground offers many amenities including an early evening ice and ice cream truck that makes the rounds through the campsites.
The Pistol River State Scenic Viewpoint is 11 miles south of Gold Beach along highway 101 in Oregon. The river is named for a pistol lost in the river during the Rogue River Wars in 1853.

A lei of flowers washed up on Whalehead Beach. There were no footprints. Was it from a wedding? Debris from the Japanese earthquake and tsunami? An unsolved mystery.
