A Look Back—Tufa Lens Flare
I had overlooked this Mono Lake shot. I have never used a star filter to create an effect like this, but shooting directly into the sun created this lens flare. October, 2008.

A Look Back—Sailboat And Mist
On an early morning run around Hume Lake in Kings Canyon National Park, I saw the mist rising around the sailboat and knew I had to come back before the light changed. I sprinted back for the camera and then back again to the lake. A lot of work, but worth it!

lake Crescent hugs Route 101 in the Olympic National Park. It is nearly 12 miles in length and is the second deepest lake in Washington. Very beautiful and mysterious.

Zephyr Point–Lake Tahoe 2
The Sierra Nevada mountains, as well as all of California, are in the grip of a relentless drought. That meant very cold temperatures but no snow or rain. The snow on the ground is left from a single storm in November. Even though there were no clouds, the lake reflected a little color from the rising sun.
