The light station was built to protect the increased maritime transport of lumber to rebuild San Francisco after the great earthquake of 1906. It was completed in 1909.

In September of this year, 2012, we took a three week road trip along the Northern California and Oregon coast in order to visit family and friends. We saw spectacular rocky cliffs, lonely beaches, redwoods and lots of fog. Over the next several weeks I’ll post some of my favorite shots. We began the coast portion of the trip just north of the Russian River. This shot was looking back south as we began to climb in elevation.
