This twelve-point pond is surrounded by annuals. It was designed for Mr. Butchart’s ornamental ducks and is located between the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden.

Butchart Gardens–The Ross Fountain
Ian Ross was the Butchart’s grandson. He created this fountain for the lower reservoir of the Sunken Garden. It was installed in 1964 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the gardens.

Butchart Gardens–The Sunken Garden 2
When the limestone quarry was exhausted, Mrs. Butchart began the process of transforming a scarred landscape into the Sunken Garden. Her vision of what a devastated landscape could be is very inspiring. I usually prefer the wild beauty of nature but these gardens are breath-taking. Some 900 varieties of over a million bedding plants provide continual bloom from March to October.
