This is another example of a desaturated background. The horse and rider in color clearly separates them from the background. Separation is also helped by having the background out of focus, although there is enough detail to see that it is a beach with waves in the background.

Horse And Rider At Sunset
Photographing the horses on the wet sand with the sun low on the horizon created a shadow reflection. I was interested in trying to capture the reflection and a silhouette of the horse and rider. Although it was sunset, the sky was overcast and gray. I boosted the orange and red colors to increase the warmth of the image.

Horses On A Beach
In late October I attended Morro Photo Exposition in Morro Bay, California. It was a weekend of classes, lectures on different aspects of photography, and, most enjoyable of all, an opportunity to shoot in a spectacular location. One of the organized events was the chance to photograph several riders and horses on the Morro Bay beach at sunset. Over the next several days I will post images from that shoot.
Two riders used English style gear and two used American Western gear. These riders are using English gear.

Happy New Year From Gary Williams Photography!
The image today is appropriate for the season and the new year. It was discovered a few years ago that on the morning of the Winter Solstice, the rising sun shines though a window of the San Juan Bautista Mission and directly illuminates the tabernacle of the altar. I shot this image at the Mission at the Winter Solstice of 2007. I set my tripod up near the front altar and shot down the center aisle directly into the sun, f11 for 1.3 seconds.
(This image is a repeat of my first post from January 1, 2010. Today begins the second year of my photo blog. Last year I posted 120 images.)
May 2011 be full of light for you. Gary Williams
