Road Trip–Point Cabrillo Light Station

Photograph of Point Cabrillo Lighthouse at sunset near Russian Gulch in Northern CaliforniaThe light station was built to protect the increased maritime transport of lumber to rebuild San Francisco after the great earthquake of 1906. It was completed in 1909.

A long hike from the parking area to the lighthouse was worth the effort.

Road Trip–Northern California

Photograph of cliffs, fog and a beach on the northern California coast near Jenner, CaliforniaIn September of this year, 2012, we took a three week road trip along the Northern California and Oregon coast in order to visit family and friends. We saw spectacular rocky cliffs, lonely beaches, redwoods and lots of fog. Over the next several weeks I’ll post some of my favorite shots. We began the coast portion of the trip just north of the Russian River. This shot was looking back south as we began to climb in elevation.

Boats–Sailboat

Photograph of a sailboat at sunset off the central California coast near Moss Landing, CaliforniaLiving near the central California coast is a photographer’s dream. Light is often softened and filtered by the fog. Wildlife is abundant. Storms create dramatic skies and waves are always in motion. Moss Landing is my closest access to the ocean, but Monterey and Santa Cruz are not far away. Boats and fishing are the heart of Moss Landing. Over the next several weeks I will post some of my favorite shots of boats and harbors. This was taken from Moss Landing Beach in 2004.
