This is one of my favorite shots. The sun is rising behind the Gabilan Range and is reflected from plastic covering the rows where strawberries will be planted. Taken with the 24-120mm lens near Russell Road, Salinas, California, November, 2004.

New Mexico—Ghost Ranch
An old cabin along the entrance road to Ghost Ranch, a retreat center near Albiquí, New Mexico. The Ghost Ranch has a colorful history and is, perhaps, best known by its association with the artist Georgia O’Keeffe who lived there at one time and found inspiration for many of her paintings. Today it is owned by the Presbyterian Church USA and is operated as a retreat center. It is open to the public.

This view is looking toward the Godrevy headlands. The yellow flowers in the distance are Gorse, an unfamiliar plant in California. It has a pleasant fragrance, a mixture of coconut and almond.

Road Trip–Painted Hills 5
The colors of the Painted Hills change through the day as the light changes. The colors are particularly rich at sunset, but, alas, these photos were taken in the harsh light of mid-day. I could find no camping nearby because hunting season was just underway. Perhaps I’ll find my way back one day.
