Moss Landing Wildlife–Sea Lions

Photograph of sleeping sea lions on the visitors dock in Moss Landing HarborMoss Landing installed an expensive visitor’s dock in 2007. Almost immediately, it was taken over by hundreds of sea lions. The dock is no longer available for visitors since the sea lions show no interest in leaving. The sea lions spend most of the time on the dock sleeping or quarreling with each other. They sleep stacked on top of each other like puppies.

California Waves — Dog in Surf

Photograph of a dog running in the surf at Moss Landing, CaliforniaThis has been a popular print at Art shows. I am always asked if this is my dog. It would make a better story, perhaps, if it was, but it isn’t my dog. I saw it trotting through the edge of the surf and managed a quick shot before it was gone. Taken at Moss Landing Beach, January 2005.

Pelican In Flight

Photograph of a pelican flying at Moss Landing HarborPelicans have a wingspan up to 7 feet. They usually fly in flocks and often glide close to the water’s surface. They seem almost prehistoric to me. This pelican reminds me of a Pterodactyl.
