Favorite Images From 2010–Juvenile Herons

Photograph of two juvenile white herons near Morro Bay, California These two herons were among a large number feeding near the shore north of Morro Bay, California. They seemed to be in conversation and were oblivious to my presence. I used a tonal contrast filter to bring out the details in the feathers.

Favorite Images From 2010–The Alabama Hills

Photograph of boulders and flowers in the Alabama Hills, near Lone Pine, CaliforniaThe Alabama Hills are west of Lone Pine in Inyo County, California and near the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. With Mt. Whitney as a backdrop, this jumble of boulders is a favorite location for photographers. Since the 1920s, more than 150 movies and television shows have been filmed here. This was shot in harsh light, but I like the splash of yellow from the flowers.
