Favorite Images From 2010–The Alabama Hills
The Alabama Hills are west of Lone Pine in Inyo County, California and near the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. With Mt. Whitney as a backdrop, this jumble of boulders is a favorite location for photographers. Since the 1920s, more than 150 movies and television shows have been filmed here. This was shot in harsh light, but I like the splash of yellow from the flowers.

Favorite Images From 2010–Pigeon Point Lighthouse
The Pigeon Point Lighthouse is about 20 miles north of Santa Cruz, California. 115 feet tall, it is one of the tallest in america. It began operation in 1872. Although the original Fresnel lens is no longer in use, the lighthouse is still an aid to navigation. The grounds are open to the public and the original lighthouse keeper’s housing is restored and operated as a Hostel.
