Favorite Images From 2011–Crepuscular Rays

Photograph of a crepuscular light ray over the Pacific Ocean at Asilomar beach, CaliforniaOften called God’s rays, crepuscular rays stream through gaps in the clouds as columns of light contrasting with a darker background. They occur most frequently around dusk or dawn when contrasts are most apparent. Crepuscular is the Latin word for twilight.
