Favorite Images From 2011–Amaryllis

Photograph of Amaryllis flowers in front of cactusAugust is often a barren time for flowers in bloom near the California central coast. It is always a pleasure to see the return of the Amaryllis. I enjoy the contrast of the delicate and the rough in this shot.

Favorite Images From 2011–Crepuscular Rays

Photograph of a crepuscular light ray over the Pacific Ocean at Asilomar beach, CaliforniaOften called God’s rays, crepuscular rays stream through gaps in the clouds as columns of light contrasting with a darker background. They occur most frequently around dusk or dawn when contrasts are most apparent. Crepuscular is the Latin word for twilight.

This was taken in March, 2011, at Asilomar Beach, California.

Favorite Images From 2011–Farm In The Hills

Photograph of a farm in San Benito County, CaliforniaThis is from the Old Stage Road that connects Salinas and San Juan Bautista, California. This looks back toward Monterey County and the Salinas Valley;  taken in March, 2011, when winter rains had turned the hills green. It is said that the bandit Joaquin Murrieta robbed stages on this road in the 1850’s.
