A Look Back—Dramatic Clouds Over Fremont Peak

Photograph of dramatic clouds over Fremont Peak near Salinas, CaliforniaA winter storm brought dramatic clouds to the area in January of 2007. I found the nearest high point, Manzanita Park, to capture as much of the sky as possible. The highest peak in the distance is Fremont Peak. It was the first place in California where the American flag was raised.

A Look Back—Snow Covered Peak

Photograph of a snow covered peak near Lone Pine, CaliforniaAn overlooked shot from a trip to the eastern Sierra Nevada in March of 2006. Snow prevented me from going higher in elevation, but a telephoto zoom brought this peak in close. There was so little color in the scene that I thought it looked better in black and white.

A Look Back—Bridalveil Fall

Photograph of Bridalveil Fall in Yosemite Valley, CaliforniaA detail of the mist and spray generated by Bridalveil Fall. When the waterfall is flowing at its peak in the spring of a wet year, it is nearly impossible to reach the base of the fall without getting soaked.

A Look Back—Yosemite Waterfalls

Photograph of Bridalveil Fall and Half Dome in Yosemite Valley, CaliforniaI am sure many millions of photos have been taken from this very same viewpoint, but this was my first trip to Yosemite in the spring. I was amazed by the volume of water going over the falls. May 23, 2006.

A Look Back—Kings Canyon Solarized

Photograph of Kings Canyon converted with a Solarizing filterThis was shot with a telephoto lens from an overlook above Kings Canyon in Kings Canyon National Park. It was a very hazy morning and not all appealing. The haze, however, did show the multiple layers of the separate ridges stretching away into the distance. I converted this shot with a solarizing filter to emphasize the layers. October, 20, 2005.
