The eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range is very dramatic. The peaks rise very steeply from the high desert. Near Lone Pine, at 4000 feet elevation, you can look up to the peak of Mount Whitney, the highest peak in California at 14,505 feet. The rugged peaks, high desert and brilliant fall color make the eastern Sierra Nevada one of my favorite destinations.
