Anza-Borrego State Park–Culp Valley

Photograph of boulders and cactus in Culp Valley in Anza-Borrego State ParkCulp Valley is only 9 miles from the Palm Canyon campground but it is 3000 feet higher in elevation. Cactus and Mojave yucca are sprinkled among the tilted slabs and rounded granite boulders. The wind was steady, cold and fierce in February.

Photograph of Mojave Yucca in the Joshua Tree National ParkA late February trip to southern California included a stop at Joshua Tree National Park. The Jumbo Rocks campground is at 4400 feet elevation and was very cold at sunrise. The Mojave Yucca is sometimes called Spanish Dagger.
