A colorful building in the Rancho De Taos Plaza. Rancho De Taos is best known for the San Francisco de Asis Mission Church, the subject of several paintings by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe, as well as photographs by Ansel Adams and many others. This building is located right next to the church.

A small business located near the entrance to the Taos Pueblo. The trees behind the building are cottonwoods and, in October, provide much of the Fall color around Taos.

A chilly morning at the Taos Pueblo. In earlier times, pueblo adobes did not have doors; access to the building was through the roof. Ladders could be pulled up for safety. Ladders are still common, but most adobes have doors and windows, and most are painted blue.

The round structure to the right of the Adobe building is a mud adobe outdoor oven. They are wood heated and can be used for cooking bread, meats and other foods. Its Spanish name is “Horno.”

The Taos Pueblo has been continuously inhabited for over 1000 years, the oldest such community in the United States. This sleeping dog caught my eye.
