They occur most frequently around dusk or dawn when contrasts are most apparent. Crepuscular is the Latin word for twilight.

This was taken in March, 2011, at Asilomar Beach, California.

Photograph of a dog in front of a large wave at Moss Landing Beach, California

Before 2012 fades away, I thought I would look back to a few personal favorite images from 2011 that I haven’t posted here already. 2011 was a productive and prolific year. I added 11,897 images to my catalog. Many came from my trip to Alaska and Canada, and many were bracketed exposures, multiple exposures of the same scene taken at different shutter speeds. I added another large number to separate catalogs for clients or specific assignments. The posts that follow are from my personal catalog and the only criteria they meet is that I like them.

This was taken in January, 2011, at Moss Landing Beach, California.

I wanted to capture the pelicans against the wave, but I didn’t see how many there were until I reviewed my images later.

These birds seem to be watching the crashing wave. I think they just happened to be looking in the same direction. I didn’t notice any other behavior that indicated they were aware of the unusually large waves.
