The Palouse Region
I recently spent several days in eastern Washington, participating in a photography workshop with Scott Bourne and Gary Hamburgh. The area is part of a larger region known as the Palouse, a wheat-growing region characterized by numerous hills, humps and hollows. Crops follow the contours of the hills and create a compelling variety of textures and patterns for the photographer.

Grapevines and Sierra Snow
This shot is from Easton, California, a small farming community a few miles southwest of Fresno. The Sierras are not often visible from the San Joaquin Valley because of air pollution. The snow covered peaks were beautiful on an early March morning in 2006. I used a telephoto lens to bring the mountains in the distance much closer to the vineyard in the foreground.
