The Homer Spit juts five miles out into the Kachemak Bay. There are many shops, restaurants, fishing boats and colorful residents along the spit. It is a main focus for tourism in Homer.

A variety of textures and shadows and reflections also made this a candidate for black and white.

The dark clouds over the bay contrasted with the snow on the shoulders of the mountains across the bay. The extreme contrasts made this a good candidate for black and white. Homer, Alaska, 2011.

Another combination of mountains, snow, clouds and water that looked better in black and white. This is the Cook Inlet, a body of water that stretches 180 miles from Anchorage to the Gulf of Alaska.

Pickhandle Lake is a lovely spot along the Alaska Highway in the Yukon Territory, Canada. This area has been used a trade and gathering area by the First Nation Peoples for many generations.
